THE ORGANIZATION


The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District protects public health and the environment by leading effective wastewater and stormwater management. As the largest wastewater treatment provider in the State of Ohio, the Sewer District spans 380 square miles, serves 63 communities and one million residents, and treats 90 billion gallons of wastewater a year.

In addition to its award-winning treatment plant and laboratory performance, the Sewer District’s Project Clean Lake construction program will reduce annual Lake Erie pollution by 4 billion gallons by 2036, while its Regional Stormwater Management Program addresses widespread inter-community problems like flooding, pollution, and erosion.

THE POSITION

 

Coordinate, develop and deliver internal communications and resources to maximize employee engagement. Collaborate with employees at all levels to capture content, coordinate internal news cycles and manage resources that advance the employee-focused work of our communications and community relations strategic plan. Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Maintains the highest quality and accuracy for Sewer District employee communications. Researches and implements best practices in internal communications including digital, print and programming.

- Gains cooperation for communication efforts by establishing a recurring monthly presence at all facilities, building relationships and gaining awareness of culture, programs and opportunities.

- Prepares and delivers information in various internal communication mediums such as email blasts, digital bulletins, intranet content, employee newsletters, etc.

- Works with the Communications and Community Relations (CCR) group to write copy that adheres to Sewer District brand standards for clarity, creativity and consistency.

- Surveys staff to determine the effectiveness of publication methods and recommends changes when appropriate.

- Collaborates to establish annual content calendars for newsletter, intranet news updates, employee email blasts, recurring campaign support, etc.

- Helps design and post digital graphics, event announcements and related materials.

- Works effectively across departments including human resources, district administration, administration & external affairs (AEA), operation & maintenance, engineering & construction and others to manage relationships and content opportunities.

- Assists with presentation support for brand consistency and delivery.

- Supports the communication function of the Sewer District by utilizing resources to meet objectives and maximizing content opportunities.

- Contributes to the development and delivery of recurring internal communication programs and employee education efforts including but not limited to recruitment, onboarding and employee wellness.

- Acts as a liaison between the AEA department and other Sewer District departments and employees. Strategizes with key employees about internal and external communication methods to deliver Sewer District related information.

- Performs other related duties as may be required.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION

- Candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree preferably in journalism, communications, english or a closely related field of study.

- Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as outlined in the Education Equivalencies Policy.

EXPERIENCE

- Candidate must possess 3 years of experience in a position that successfully produced and disseminated a variety of employee communications resources.

- Experience with graphic design and Adobe Creative Suite is preferred.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidate must possess a valid driver’s license with a driving record in accordance with the Sewer District’s acceptable guidelines.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

- Candidate must possess effective written and verbal communication, organizational skills and decision-making abilities.

- Candidate must possess the ability to build and maintain positive relationships through interpersonal sensitivity, diversity and inclusion awareness and conflict management.

- Candidate must possess emotional intelligence and DEI sensitivity that allows for effective communication with a diverse employee population.

- Candidate must possess ability to manage projects, meet deadlines and tackle emergencies and difficult situations.

- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and graphic design is preferred.

- Candidate must possess the ability to effectively plan, coordinate, establish and maintain effective working relationships and prioritize workloads based on available resources.

- Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

- Candidate must possess negotiation and problem-solving skills to address issues and opportunities for improvement.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

During the course of performing the essential functions of this position the employee must be able to analyze, comprehend, coordinate, make decisions, interpret, negotiate, organize, solve problems and complete tasks. Ability to communicate while exhibiting strong interpersonal skills is required. Employee must also possess numerical intelligence. Physical work will need to be performed including typing, walking, talking, sitting, standing, reaching, kneeling, feeling and driving. Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. occasionally. Position will require visual demands of color vision and depth perception. The position is primarily in an office environment; however, promoting communications and representing our department at other Sewer District facilities and off-site events is required on a regular basis. Employee must be willing to flex schedules to accommodate occasional and seasonal weekend event support (i.e., Clean Water Fest third Saturday in September, Utility Assistance Resource Fairs, etc.) While performing work outside of the office employee may be exposed to outdoor work, wet/humid environments, extreme heat/cold and work in confined spaces at and heights.

Pay Range: USD, Commensurate with Experience

$58,394 - $74,244
