Monitoring Support Technician (Community Service Aide II)

The primary responsibility of this position is to support our restoration monitoring and data stewardship efforts.  To support the Restoration Monitoring Program, this position will collect, manage, and disseminate site-specific data that informs surface water restoration project design and project performance. This work includes conducting site visits to collect groundwater data, conduct habitat assessments, determine compensatory wetland area and functions to comply with state and federal regulations.    This position will also assist with data management tasks to complete MCA data initiatives.  This involves the curation of existing datasets and working closely with MCA staff and BES Business Systems Analysts.

Position Schedule:

Limited-term with a maximum of 1400 hours per calendar year (approx. 25 hours per week).

Start Date: June 2021

End Date: Current funding is available through June 30, 2022.

Preferred Qualifications

Please state in your resume if you have the following desired qualifications (Please note, these are not required but will be helpful)

  • Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, Geology or Biology or a Graduate Certificate in Hydrology or 2 years of equivalent work experience in the environmental sciences field.
  • Experience collecting field measurements for the evaluation of stream condition, Including:
    • Macroinvertebrate sampling
    • Habitat measurements
    • Land elevation surveys using an auto level and a total station.
    • Water quality data logging instrumentation
  • Ability to perform analysis of data collected and support creation of technical memorandums and reports
  • Ability to perform data management tasks with self-motivated, methodical, and detailed approach.
  • Knowledge or experience using environmental data analysis software such as R.
  • Proficient with various software including ESRI ArcGIS and MS Excel
  • Ability to work closely with others on a team while maintaining social distancing requirements


The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:

  1. Knowledge of earth sciences such as hydrology, geomorphology, geology, ecology, hydrogeology, environmental engineering, and geotechnics. 
  2. Experience conducting environmental monitoring 
  3. Experience using data management software (including MS Excel) for data entry,data quality control, data analysis, and reporting
  4. Ability to carry a minimum of 40 pounds of monitoring equipment over rough terrain during inclement weather.
  5. Ability to drive BES work vehicle or personal vehicle to fieldwork sites.

  • A valid state driver's license and acceptable driving record at the time of hire.
